Jharkhand Indigenous and Tribal Peoples for Action

Jharkhand Indigenous and Tribal Peoples for Action is working to develop, strengthen and ensure the unity, interlink and Solidarity of all indigenous and tribal peoples in Jharkhand and at national level without interfering with their autonomy.
To develop, strengthen, and ensure the existence of the traditional social institutions, systems and organizations of indigenous and tribal people in Jharkhand and other states of India we have developed cultural teams for exchange of the same. We have performed at national and international level cultural festivals. We have supported the indigenous knowledge system and traditional political set up and also supported the call through various peaceful mass demonstrations.
We are involved in action oriented studies, research, documentation and program of all forms of social, economic, political, religious and cultural aspects of tribals and Indigenous peoples. We are now making efforts to expand our fields to other parts of India as well.
We also work with other partner Organizations for social development particularly of poor and downtrodden. We also engage in facilitating training facilities for the Indigenous and tribal peoples that relates to social, educational, economic, cultural and administrative matters. We have successfully conducted various seminars, conferences and symposia in the past both at regional and national level.
We are also into advocacy and capacity building programs to strengthen the knowledge base of grass roots. We have conducted many such programs and the recent was on water harvesting techniques by Indigenous methods which was guided by the Water man of Jharkhand, Mr. Simon Oraon.
We take up issues related to climate change and disaster management and to put every effort to raise awareness regarding environmental preservation and conservation. To support and strengthen the climate change drives with partner organizations.
We have created Chairs in the name of tribal dignitaries and conduct annual award functions for the distinguished tribal activists in recognition of their contribution towards tribal society. We promote tribal handicrafts and other distinguished products and material culture to regional, national and international market where the benefits is shared completely by the tribal artisan.
The society also annually recognizes and awards the distinguished students and academicians from economically weaker section of the tribal societies. Regular conferences and in-situ training at village level is conducted to preserve and rejuvenate the fast vanishing indigenous knowledge system.
