Janak Hajari Sanskrit Vidyapith(Campus)--at a glance
Recognised as a reputed centre of orientel learning from time immemorial in this historical and Videha Nagari Janakpur Dham, Janak Vidyapith was stablished as a constituent unit of Mahendra Sanskrit University of the then time in 2047 B.S. for excellent and extensive teaching and learning pursuits of all the subjects including Sanskrit literature, realising a pressing need of establishing an institution par excellence to preserve the glorious tradition of the past and to promote Sanskrit and Sanskriti.
With the restoration of democracy in 2046 B.S., realizing a pressing necessity of higher education of Sanskrit in Janakpur Dham, Mahendra Sanskrit university instituted a fifteen member co-operation committee under the active participation of the then Sanskrit lover, associate professor Sri Krishna Acharya, the vice- chancellor of Mahendra Sanskrit University and Sri Madhav Raj Gautam, the registrar of the Mahendra Sanskrit University and Sri Ram Chandra Thakur presided over the committee.
The meeting of the co-operation committee was held on 2047.09.05 and unanimously a decision was taken to appeal Mahendra Sanskrit University to establish a Sanskrit Vidyapith in Janakpur to start to impart teaching of Sanskrit upto Shashtri (Bachelor) level, and to name the Vidyapith as Janak Sanskrit Vidyapith. Similarly, it was decided in the meeting that class of the students of the Vidyapith would be conducted at Sanskrit high school, Yagyavalkya Sanskrit High School,Gyankoop, teaching and learning work would be started from the coming session and the Vidyapith would be inaugurated by Sri Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, the honourable Prime Minister of the then time. This is how, the inception of the establishment of the vidyapith took place.
In accordance with the decision passed by the academic council of Mahendra Sanskrit University on 2047.03.28, Janak Sanskrit Vidyapith was duly inaugurated by Sri Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, the then Prime Minister of Nepal on the 19th of Paush,2047 B.S.in Janakpur Dham, the birth place of Janaki, the mother of the world, the place of spiritual endeavor of scholars like Yagyavalkya,Gargi and Maitreyi, the field of action of king Janak, a realizer of the supreme spirit, the place of religious debate of thinkers like Astavakra and others and recognized as a place hallowed with spiritual vibes and vibrancy.
Shortly after announcement of the donation amounting to be 500111 R.S. for Vidyapith by a social worker, Sri Hajari Sahu, Janak Sanskrit Vidyapith was named after him as Hajari Janak Vidyapith apart from inclusion of his name in the list of donators for Vidyapith following the decision made by the Academic Council of Mahendra Sanskrit University on 2047.11.30. Enthused by such a tremendous honour conferred on him, Sri Hajari Sah handed over the class rooms and administrative rooms of the ground floor to Vidyapith after getting it built at his own expence. Hajari Janak Vidyapith located at the building of Gyankoop High School was shifted into its own newly built building and its teaching and learning pursuits became operational from there in 2053 B.S. The top floor of the building of the Vidyapith built at a cost incurred by Mahendra Sanskrit University was inaugurated by Sri Madhav Raj Gautam, the then vice chancellor of the university on the 15th of paush, 2056 B.S.
Soon after landmark historical changes taken place in the politics of Nepal in 2063 B.S., in accordance with democratic values Mahendra Sanskrit University was changed into Nepal Sanskrit University after amending the act by the meeting of the parliament held on 2063.06.28. In strict adherence to the given policy,a decision was passed in its meeting by Nepal Sanskrit University on 2067.06.15.to change the name Hajari Janak into Janak Hajari putting the word Hajari behind the word Janak, realizing that the existing name of the Vidyapith amounted to be a sheer insult for such a national level outstanding personality like King Janak apart from generating multiple doubts and illusions among people behind it. Until recently it was called by that name.

The central Guthi(Trust) office provided six acres 240sq. yards (three kattha) and 84.65 sq.m.pieces of land to the Vidyapith for the construction of building complex. So the building complex was built over there having class rooms, administrative rooms with a room on the first floor for library with 5500 books. In addition, there is another building complex having a hostel, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Saraswati Temple, a residence for the priest, a quarter for a night guard, and another room in a dilapidated condition. In this way, there are all together seven rooms over there in operation. At present in this vidyapith learning and teaching activities upto Uttarmadhyama (Intermediate level) and Shashtri (Bachelor level) take place properly.
