More about J. H. Ambani School Alumni Association

Our Mission:

To support the interests of its alumni, and its current and future students, through the development of mutually beneficial relationships.

Our Vision:

To provide any student of the school, with dreams and aspirations to achieve, the means to succeed. To unite all the alumni of school and facilitate alumni involvement and communication with their alma mater and to see that alumni are recognized as a respected and integral part of the school community.

Our Principles:

We believe that school should be a cooperative enterprise, a community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Collectively and individually, all are responsible for developing, supporting, and sustaining the objectives of the institution. We believe that the division of these responsibilities and the organizational approach may vary from institution to institution. However, inherent in all such concepts is the premise that alumni have a continuing obligation to serve their alma mater. We believe alumni are in a unique position to provide advice and counsel.
We believe that alumni can best serve the School by joining together in an association that can promote and focus support and service and that the concepts for developing the alumni association's organizational policies should be determined by the alumni themselves.

Purpose of the Proposal:

The Purpose of this Proposal is to Form an official Alumni body of the school. We would like to put forward this proposal as a new initiative taken by all Pass out Students of
J.H.AMBANI ENGLISH MEDIUM LODHIVALI.

Initiatives Planned by the Association:

• Sessions on career counselling for students in their +2, where alumnus from all different fields, will present their experiences and sell their fields (from sports, defence, civil services to doctors and engineers as well) to the students.

• A database of all alumni will be created which will hold details of their colleges (present or past) and their jobs (present and past) so that it will be easy for all the students passing out of the school to find new contacts at whichever place they go to and in general get some valuable feedback about the place.

• Will conduct a session for students after the results of JEE are announced to help them fill proper choices in CAP rounds or similar allotment procedures. Giving them feedback about various colleges and cities, thus helping them fill their preferences accordingly.

• Will conduct a session for students in 11th standard giving them information and statistics of various colleges and the amount of study necessary to reach those colleges, thereby motivating them to work harder in order to achieve their dreams and aspirations.

• Will provide some innovative ideas for school activities that will help to improve intellectual skill set of the individual.

• Will organise guest-lectures or workshops and even coaching camps, based totally on student recommendations and interests, which could range from any topic like photography and film making to economics, speaking skills, football, cricket etc.
(Subject to availability of expert alumnus on recommended subject)

• Inculcate importance of co-curricular activities in students and motivate them in that direction but also making them realise the importance of not compromising on along with academics while doing this.

• Alumni are the best possible counsellors that a student could hope for, since it is most likely that they themselves have found themselves in similar situations during their school years. Some alumni counsellors will also be appointed and their contact details made available to the students so that they can contact them and discuss their problem at length at provide them a satisfactory solution.

• More initiatives among similar lines will follow as per recommendation by the school.

• A merit-cum-means scholarship via alumni funds for students who are meritorious and deserve the quality education that our school offers, but are faced with financial difficulties.

Benefits to the School and Students:

• Contacts: Undoubtedly the biggest advantage of this to both the school and the students alike is the possibility of getting contacts in places and organisations. For a student taking up further education in a place, away from home, the contacts of our alumni already working or studying there, will greatly help to smoothen the transition to the new place. If the school wishes to organise events with some other organisation like a tour for example. A contact of our alumni at the organisation greatly increases the possibility of a smooth deal.

• Counselling: In the recent era where there is a rampant increase in student suicides, due to lack of proper counselling and the ever-increasing peer and parental pressure on students. There is a huge need for counselling both students and parents about their problems, help them understand each other better and help increase the efficiency of the learning process.

• Workshops: Workshops in various fields have become extremely expensive these days. We are pretty sure that most alumni would conduct free workshops in their field of expertise. Initially it may not be possible for us to provide equipment for the workshops, for example a workshop on robotics needs a whole kit of things and the students may need to pay only the cost of the equipment being used for these. If there is a lack of expert alumni in certain fields, experts on subjects in question through alumni contacts could be requested to conduct workshops on the same.

• Mentorship: Every student needs a mentor, someone who can guide him, someone who he can look up to, and preferably someone who has been there and done that.
Finding a better mentor than an alumnus is practically impossible. This will definitely help the students to grow a lot.

• An importance of this will be to strengthen the alumni network of the school, the importance of this, can be noted by this statement made by
Mr. Victor Menezes,
“The strength of an organisation is in the strength of its alumni network.”

• Will give the students a chance to repay the school for the enormous impact that it has had on his/her life through alumni funds and direct involvement in activities.

Structure of the organisation:

Composition.

The organisation will be under the principal of the school and will have all registered but will have its own independent council. The council will be headed by a Chairmanwith the responsibility of formulation and conduction of the planned initiatives, he/she will be at par with a teacher-coordinator appointed by the school. Below them there will be a Secretary responsible for documentation, including registration of new alumni and database maintenance. There will be a Treasurergiven the responsibility of managing all the alumni funds and ensuring a transparent process leaving no room for fund mismanagement. The council will also consist of a member from the fresh batch of 12th standard passing out students, as they will be able to provide valuable insight on necessary initiatives on behalf of the organisation. There will also be 2 Student Representativeschosen by the alumni, one boy and one girl from the present batch of 11th standard students, who will make recommendations on activities to be conducted and will also be responsible for informing all the alumni about activities taking place in the school via photos and articles on social media like facebook and google groups. There could be some changes in the number of members depending on the work load experience by the members.

Funds and Registration.

All alumni will have to register into the organisation by filling either a google form which will be made available online or through the hard copy of the form which will be made available in the school. The registration will cost Rs. 300 which will be deposited straight to the bank account of the alumni association. A nominal half-yearly donation of Rs. 500 will be compulsory for renewal of registration for all alumni who have finished their education and have acquired employment.Registration will be compulsory for all students before taking a TC from the school.
