Hubballi Dharwad City Police

Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissionerate was created vide Government Order NoHD-91/POP/1989 Dated:17/10/1989. The Government also appointed Commissioner of Police, Hubli –Dharwad as District Magistrate vide Government Notification No.HD/1001/PCC/1989 Dated.17/10/1989 for the area coming under the jurisdiction of Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation. The Commissioner of Police is exercising powers, performing the functions and duties and responsibilities as provided under the Karnataka Police Act 1963. He is assisted by Deputy Commissioner Law and Order, Deputy Commissioner Crime and Traffic and Deputy Commissioner City Armed Reserve and also five Assistant Commissioner of Police.

JURISDICTION
The jurisdiction of Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissionerate consist of Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation area which is spread over to 188.71 square KMs. The Pune-Bangalore national highway passes through both the cities of Hubli and Dharwad. Hubli-Dharwad twin cities consist of 67 wards. As per 2001 census, the population of Hubli Dharwad is around 9,86,018. It has four sub divisions Namely : 1] Hubli South, 2] Hubli North, 3] Dharwad City and separate 4] Hubli-Dharwad Traffic Division. Hubli Dharwad Commissionerate has 20 Police Stations including a separate women police station.

BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF HUBLI DHARWAD POLICE COMMISSIONERATE
Basic duties of the Police are maintenance of Law and Order, prevention and detection of crime, traffic management, enforcement of various laws of the land.

BRIEF ORGANISATIONAL SET UP OF HUBLI DHARWAD POLICE COMMISSIONERATE
The Hubli Dharwad Commissionerate Police Force is headed by the Commissioner of Police. In the discharge of his duties, he is assisted by 3 DCP’s and 5 ACP’s. The organization chart is shown at Annexure-A.

CITIZEN’S RIGHTS
The citizens have certain rights with reference to the duties of the Police as stated above. As a step towards transparency and accountability in administration, a Citizens charter has been issued with reference to the duties to be performed by the Police Officers in Hubli Dharwad City
