Haldia Government College

Welcome to Haldia Government College, an affiliated institute of Vidyasagar University. This college is dedicated to excellence and to providing our students with exceptional learning opportunities. With 11 undergraduate, 2 post graduatesand 1 Physical Education programme, the college offers degrees in different areas like languages, social sciences and sciences. These courses provide a solid foundation for students’ education. Yet, here students learn more than just what’s covered in classes. They routinely work with faculty in their laboratories, participate in different cultural and social activities, attend seminars and pursue their own intellectual passions.

Haldia Govt. College is uniquely located in the port- city of Haldia, at the juncture of rural and urban, rapid industrialization and agricultural activities. This college draws its students from different districts of West Bengal and of course different parts of Purba Medinipur as well as from other States. Being the only government college in Haldia, its importance in imparting quality education for more than 25 years is unparalleled.

There are at present more than 50 full time faculty members in the college, recruited through West Bengal Public Service Commission. Most of the faculty members are either doctorate degree holders or are pursuing higher research. This college also boasts of a large number of extremely experienced guest lecturers and non-teaching staff. Including students enrolled in Travel and Tourism Management (a self-financedvocational course), and the post graduate departments of Chemistry and Geography, there are around 2000 students studying in the college at present. A dedicated career counseling and placement cell ensures that many of the under graduate students find exciting employment opportunities even before the completion of their degrees. Many students also opt for further education in the form of M.A. or M. Sc. at Vidyasagar University and other such institutes.
