Government Ayurveda College, Kannur, Pariyaram, is one of the prestigious Educational Institution in Kerala which is functioning under the Controll of the Director of Ayurveda Medical Education, Thiruvananthapuram (Health and family welfare Department - Government of Kerala). The College imparts education in the field of Ayurveda which is an ancient system of medicine evolved from India. The Institution follows the norms and regulations of CCIM /AYUSH – under Government of India, Principal Acts as the Head of the Institution.

Government Ayurveda College Started functioning at Pariyaram from 01/06/1998 in its own building. Till 31/03/2011 the College possesses the following as its own.

A 150 bedded Ayurveda College Hospital Pariyaram (both IP & OP building)
Men’s and Ladies Hostel
Type III quarters for 24 families
Type II quarters for 8 families.

ORGANIZATION SET UP

Government Ayurveda College, Kannur, Pariyaram is functioning under the aegis of the Director, Ayurveda Medical Education, Thiruvananthapuram which is under the H & FW Department, Government Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram. Principal is the Head of the College. Government have created 84 posts for Government Ayurveda College, Pariyaram till 31/03/2011. The details are furnished below.

Besides the above, a Collegiate library is also functioning smoothly under the College. There is a Librarian Gr IV working in the library to look after the routine functioning of the library with the assistance of a library Attender. The following are the details of books, periodicals etc. Available in the library as on 31.03.2011.

INFRASTRUCTURE:
Government Ayurveda College, Kannur, Pariyaram started functioning in its own building from 01/06/1998 for imparting classes to the BAMS Students. There were 5 batches of BAMS Students with intake capacity of 40 students each year. 2 PG courses in Roganidana & Kriya sareera were also being conducted with an intake capacity of 5 students in each discipline. The College has procured the required Furniture items, lab equipments, Chemicals, Charts, Models, library books etc for all the departments of the College.

IMPLEMENTATION OF RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT :
The Director of Ayurveda Medical Education has re-designated the Appellate authority, PIOs & Asst.PIOs as detailed below vide Order No.417/G2/2011/DAME Dated 16/02/2011.

INTERNAL CONTROL MECHANISM :
Government Ayurveda College, Kannur is functioning under the
Directorate of Ayurveda Medical Education and internal audit of accounts of College and Hospital were conducted annually by the Director of Ayurveda Medical Education, Thiruvananthapuram.
Government Ayurveda College Kannur Hospital:
A 100 bedded Government Ayurveda College Hospital, Kannur, Pariyaram has been started functioning from 01/06/1998 in the 'A' Block of the College building to give clinical training to the BAMS students as per the norms prescribed by CCIM, New Delhi. The functioning of the college hospital has been shifted to the newly constructed I.P. Block of the College hospital from 12/2004. The P.W.D. building division has handed over the newly constructed O.P. Block of the Hospital Building in 03/2010 and the functioning of the Administration of the Hospital have been shifted to the newly constituted O.P. Block from 01/06/2010 onwards.
Government have enhanced the bed strength of Hospital from 100 beds to 150 beds from 08/2009 onwards. At present 13 clinical Departments are functioning in the Hospital of which 2 Departments namely Department of Roganidana and Kriyasareera are P.G. Departments.
Government Ayurveda College Hospital, Kannur, Pariyaram is functioning under the Government Ayurveda College, Kannur, Pariyaram and Directorate of Ayurveda Medical Education, Arogya Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram with Superintendent as the Head of the Office.
Government have created 57 para medical posts and 11 ministerial posts for Government Ayurveda College Hospital, Kannur, Pariyaram.

Mens Hostel:
The Men’s Hostel of Government Ayurveda College, Pariyaram started the year 1998. The hostel building is one-storeyed and is situated at the college campus. The hostel has 15 double rooms for the inmates. Each room has facility to lodge 2 students. Separate Reading room, Computer room , TV room, Mess hall and Kitchen are available at the hostel.The mess hall has the capacity to hold 35 students at a time. The Hostel is governed by a Hostel union in which a Secretary and President along with other members controls the hostel and are elected for the duration of 1year.The inmates has also started a vegetable garden and a herbal garden. A well equipped computer room for their curricular activities are arranged upstairs. A ground other than the college ground is available for the physical strengthening of the hostel inmates.

Ladies Hostel :
Govt Ayurveda College was established in the year 1998,Ladies Hostel is situated to the left of the college , very adjacent to the college as well as hospital premises,Hostel has a 3 storeyed building and consists of 38 rooms with all basic facilities.computer Room, Lavish Mess Hall where 65 students can dine at a time, single dormitory equipped with beds for the 30 students, Spacious Courtyard and Varandha with beautiful /garden outside. Each of the Rooms Provides Individual Cots,Table , Chair and Shelfs for the 3 inmates with standard Electrical Facilities.Mess is Controlled by Students Themselves.

Govt. Ayurveda College Library, Kannur:
Kannur Govt Ayurveda College was established in the year of 1992 at Kannur; the functioning of the college was shifted to newly constructed building at Pariyaram with effect from 1.06.1998. College library was established for the information requirements of the academic community of the Govt. Ayurveda College Kannur. The functions of the library include the collection, organization and dissemination of information.
The library is situated in the ground floor of the A Block College building with a 2600 square feet area; it has the seating capacity of 60 people at a time. Library has rich collection of books which related with ayurveda, modern medicine, general books such as Malayalam literature, and competitive examination books. Library has acquired ‘Book Magic’ Software package that supports all in housekeeping activities of the library.
