Government Degree College, Sindhanur

Government Degree College, Sindhanur is one of the oldest colleges in Hyderabad-Karnataka region. The College started functioning during the academic year 1971 as a result of endeavors of many interested persons, especially Late Sri. Amaregouda Gadratagi and the Commissioner of Collegiate Education of that moment. This College has been accredited with " B" Grade by NAAC during the year 2004-05. The college has been governed by Department of Higher Education of Karnataka Government and regulations of Gulbarga University, Gulbarga. Government of Karnataka provides learning opportunities through sanction of new courses to facilitate the stream of this region. The university updates Curriculum from time to time. The admission to various courses is made in accordance with the regulations specified by Government of Karnataka and Gulbarga University.
The college has got its own beautiful garden consisting of the medicinal plants, herbs and rare beautiful flowers. The campus area is 16.27 acres having various play grounds. The college offers undergraduate courses viz., B.A, B.Com, B.B.M, and B.Sc., with different combinations and postgraduate courses viz., M.A., M.Com, and M. Sc. The institution has drawn up an action plan to impart knowledge and to enable students to cherish their creative abilities. The institution is guided by the national education policies which emphasizes preparing efficient and skilled human resources for facing up to the contemporary challenges.
The college offers computer learning facility to the students and the staff. The college has three science laboratories, two computer labs and a library having 43000 books. The college functions on the basis of educational quality consciousness, professional uprightness and social justice for the students. This has been reflected in good academic output, achievements in the field of sports, cultural activities, social service by NSS students and enabling students to avail employment opportunities.
The institution takes up” Blood Donation” as a mission programme and it has been acknowledged by allowing “ RED CROSS “ unit to be a part of it .The NSS officers of our college and the NSS volunteers have organized good number of Blood Donation Camps in collaboration with local doctors. The faculty and the students have donated blood on their own interest to rescue the lives.
The administration has been decentralized. The responsibilities are shared and prioritized so that the institution can function smoothly. This paves the way for the sharing of duties and responsibilities and a sense of togetherness in bringing about preferred results. The institution is sensitive to the core values of NAAC which have been taken as the milestones in working out strategies to achieve a specific academic purpose. The college sticks to the concept of quality management. The human touch has been assimilated in all our best practices. A sense of commitment towards purpose is generated in the staff and they have adopted well groomed techniques in their approach.
The quality assurance is ensured through serious consideration of students’ feedback and through the prudent thinking of the principal and the senior faculty members. All our plans, procedures, norms and operations are to ensure the growth of the institution as student oriented, result oriented, and quality oriented with new horizons of learning for the students.
Many students of this college are well-settled in society. Some students have got national/ state awards in the field of NSS, Sports and debates. The college organizes inter-college sports and cultural activities every year to maintain good relation with local colleges and alumni association.
The teachers identify learning capacity of the students to ensure better understanding of curriculum by the students. Poor learners are facilitated with remedial classes, average learners are insisted to go up, and advanced learners are encouraged. However, the college intends to ensure that none of the interested eligible rural student is missed from the opportunity to get higher education.
