Giridhar Eye Institute (GEI) located in Kadavanthara, Cochin City in South India is an NABH accredited tertiary eye care hospital, established in September 1997. It has 23 full time consultants with all sub-specialties in Ophthalmology. Giridhar Eye Institute is the only hospital in the city of Cochin that provides 24x7 Trauma care.
The community eye care projects of this hospital are taken care of by SSM Eye Research Foundation, a charitable trust promoted by Giridhar Eye Institute, for helping the underprivileged.
It is one of the largest referral centers for the treatment of diseases pertaining to Retinal diseases, Ocular trauma, Cataract & Glaucoma, Uvea, Orbit and Oculoplasty, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Cornea and Refractive Errors, Contact Lens, Low Vision Aid and complicated surgical interventions. GEI serves over a lakh patients annually. With its five fully equipped operation theaters, it performs more than 6500 surgeries every year.
It also performs more than 600 free surgeries and treats over 8000 patients through free camps conducted by the SSM Trust every year.
GEI also conducts post-doctoral fellowship programs viz. fellowship in Retina, Cataract & Glaucoma, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Comprehensive Ophthalmology, etc. Institute is accredited to National Board of Examinations, New Delhi for the DNB (equivalent to MS/MD) Course.
