The Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) was incorporated in July 2012 as a not-for-profit organization by four of the prominent trade organizations of our industry – The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC); The All India Gem & Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF); The SEEPZ Gems & Jewellery Manufacturers’ Association (SGJMA) and The Jewellers Association Jaipur.
The GJSCI works under the aegis of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), a public private partnership funded entirely by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
NSDC currently works with 27 other Sector Skill Councils that virtually cover the entire gamut of industries.
The gem and jewellery industry is taking giant strides in manufacturing, exports, and retailing, the legitimate demand for a highly skilled workforce will certainly help propel the growth further. With a huge workforce, training and imparting the right skills to them is a big challenge which can be highly rewarding to the enterprise that takes this initiative.
The GJSCI is the nodal body that is spearheading this effort along with partners in the industry in working towards the end objective of developing a skilled workforce as per the National Occupational Standard. The GJSCI is the nodal body to spearhead all the skill development efforts of our Industry. The Gems & Jewellery sector provides employment to 4.6million individuals currently and is projected to provide employment opportunities to an additional workforce of 4 million by the year 2022.
