Five Lilies - Handmade and Homemade

What we put ON our bodies is as important as what we put IN our bodies.

We might live in a world today surrounded by pollution, but there are means to promote vitality using pure and natural products. What is important is to use these products mixed together in a way that their elements are in harmony. And this in turn has an amazing impact on the quality of our lives. In fact, this is a philosophy close to many Indian traditions. And it is close to me.

While I was growing up, my aunt started making skin and hair care products from regular household ingredients and some special produce from her balcony garden. It was her way of beating the Calcutta pollution and improving the quality of life of her family. And that too a big family. Hence, she inadvertently had a handful of people to try her products on. What ensued was a family culture of using her products, and we all participated in it with enthusiasm. I liked the products, at a time when I did not understand them but I liked the energy, positivity and excitement around them. It was couple of years ago that I also understood the physical effects of these comforting products of love and care.

Like many, I wanted to do something different. I wanted to be on my own. I wanted to make an impact on people's lives. I wanted to propagate positivity and joy. An idea clicked. My family has a range of great products. Why not take them beyond my family? In something very simple, I found meaning. A new journey started after a lot of planning, researching, excitement and inherent heartaches of any startup business.

Now I create my range of skin and hair care products (under the name 'Five Lilies') using natural selected ingredients like orange peel, neem , sandalwood, sea shells, hibiscus, fenugreek, rose, marigold, different spices, etc. All the ingredients are natural, or sourced naturally from select and reliable stores.
They are always tested with the same enthusiasm within the family and then with a select group of well wishers. Eventually, I roll out a product I am satisfied with. However, none of my products is a substitute for medical attention.

I make small quantities of each product to ensure freshness and effectiveness.
