Nurturing Afflatus Managers:
Department of Management Studies,University of Madras is one of India 's oldest and the most prestigious B-schools established as early as 1955.

An objective with which this institute was conceived have not been abandoned; but new ones have sprung up over time. Training budding managers, innovating and professionalizing management in priority sectors and the thought towards globalization have been added. These have profoundly changed the characteristics of DOMS from a B-school to a multi-dimensional institute of management to alter the quality of life itself, through excellent management.

In addition to its flagship Master of Business Administration program, DoMS also offers doctorate course to foster research.

We aim to achieve an ideal mix of permanent and visiting faculty that will give the students the benefit of industry exposure as well as a strong research base.

The origin and distinctive research of our faculty members ensure that our programs offer content that is state-of-the-art and global in nature.

We believe that research and thought leadership will only make DOMS truly distinctive. The department has about 30 students, pursuing doctoral programs in various contemporary areas of management. The involvement of the research scholars in deciding the syllabus adds weightage to it.

International Linkages:
The Department also has signed an MoU with the University of Florida for student exchange programs.

DOMS also has foreign students intake every year, for the MBA program, which brings in a lot of cultural confluence in the student fraternity.


About the University:
The University of Madras, organized on the model of the London University, was incorporated on the 5th of September 1857 by an act of the Legislative Council of India. It has progressed and expanded throughout the nineteenth century to span the whole of South India and subsequently gave birth to and nourished a number of other universities.

The main campus of the University of Madras is located on the Marina in Chennai. The stately historic Senate House, the Library Building with its commanding clock tower, the huge Centenary Auditorium, the massive Centenary buildings are some of the architectural delights of the sprawling University campus at Chepauk that speak of its glorific history and heritage.

The motto 'Doctrina Vim Promovet Insitam' in English means, 'Learning promotes (One's) natural (innate) talent'.
