DMSBS Kakkayur

The DMSB School, Kakkayur, was founded in 1895, more than a century ago.

Under the visionary leadership of Palliyil Bhaskara Menon, the school rose into glory. He built the new block of the school in 1954, which gave the much needed thrust to the school's basic infrastructure. Independent India gave a renewed focus to education and it is no surprise that the school also grew from strength to strength, along with the nation during the period. From 175 students in 1955, the student strength of the school multiplied by four times, to 735, by the year 1974. After the death of Palliyil Devaki Amma, mother of Palliyil Bhaskara Menon, in the year 1966, the school was renamed to 'Devaki Memorial Senior Basic School'.

DMSBS gained prominence during the 1970s and played a major role in educating a whole set of youngsters during the time. The school was a renowned hub for literary and cultural activities. Several alumni, who passed out during the 1970s and 1980s, hold high positions in the Government and Private Sectors within India and abroad today.

The institution continues to champion the cause of education in Kakkayur, and is managed by TK Gopinathan, son of Bhaskara Menon. Premalatha Menon is the current HM of the school. The school is a Government Aided Management school, and is often cited as one of the best UP schools in the Nemmara sub-district.
