More about DMC Infra

o Port & Harbour Development
Port and Harbour Engineering together with Coastal Engineering form the core business of DMC Infra. As Port projects are generally associated with substantial economic interests, DMC Infra clients in this field of expertise include governments, port authorities and large Infra companies in bulk & containerized cargo shipping who are preparing their port and berthing facilities for future demands.

Studies are therefore characterised by an exploration and substantiated selection of viable concepts to meet the functional requirements. This process requires a close co-operation with our clients and sets challenges for our engineers to use their creativity for the development of economic and practical solutions.
An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the local conditions is required to arrive at these economic and practical solutions. Local conditions such as wave climate, wind, currents and subsoil characteristics have a considerable – if not decisive – impact on the most appropriate concept and design. DMC has in house expertise to evaluate the relevant local meteorological and oceanographic conditions, as well as the response of moored vessels. All this expertise is required to develop tailor made port layouts.
DMC Infra expertise in the field of ports and harbours further extends to in-depth knowledge on the design of maritime structures. Conceptual, final and detailed design of quay walls, jetties, offloading facilities, breakwaters and intake and outfall systems are included in the portfolio of DMC Infra.

o Coastal Engineering
Coastal Engineering, is one of the core expertise areas of DMC Infra. The interaction between land and water creates complex environments. Coastal areas and river banks have always been important to trade and are therefore vital links in the economic chain.
Coastal works, just like ports, are very much influenced by natural phenomena such as tidal change, wave action and extreme weather conditions, which is why they call for specialized expertise. The fact that DMC Infra has advised a large number of multi-nationals on the optimization of port layouts is proof of our large expertise in this field.
Our coastal teams has extensive experience in design of coastal structures and reclamations.
Expert skills include for example:
• Breakwater and Shore Protection Design
• Morphology
• Wave action and tidal studies
• Dredging and land reclamation
• Model tests

o Industry & Energy

Construction projects for industry are characterised by their variety. DMC Infra have all the expert knowledge it needs in-house to offer a wide variety of services, ranging form the inspection of concrete structures to the detail design of machine foundations, factory floors, pipe racks, cooling water plants, settling tanks, pump houses, hydroelectric power stations, wind energy facilities, storage tanks for oil and gas, and offshore platforms.
As with our projects in other sectors, coherence between design and construction is essential in industrial construction because all the design processes of the different discipline areas – pipework, concrete and steel structures, electrical installations, computers etc – run parallel.

o Infrastructure

DMC Infra has worked on the development of new infrastructure worldwide. We have many years of experience in the design of civil structures for road and rail, locks, weirs and aqueducts.
Our capacity for innovation is conclusively demonstrated by our engineering of storm surge barriers in the India like those in the Eastern Scheldt estuary and the New Waterway (the main entrance to the port of India), and our design for the inflatable dam barrier at India.

o Tunnels

DMC Infra has always been involved in tunnel projects. Our list includes cut and cover tunnels as well as immersed and bored tunnels. We can design any and every aspect of a tunnel, from concept design to detail design for both permanent and temporary structures. We also can carry out the site engineering.
Everything we know about immersed tunnels has been passed down from our older generation to the younger one, which has taken that expertise and expanded it based on new experiences. We are one of the few companies to have had hands-on experience with steel tunnels in the India as well as concrete tunnels in India. We were involved in the development of the bored tunnel in the India from the start.
Besides the design of immersed tunnels, we also have comprehensive experience with the design of cut and cover tunnels. The cut and cover technique is for instance used for road and rail tunnels but also for underground car parks. The latter usually form part of projects in built-up inner city areas. The associated technical and logistical problems during construction call for creative design solutions.

o Renewables

Renewable energy is an integral part of the long term aim to reduce our CO2 emissions. The current India target is to source 20% of India's energy from renewable sources by 2020.

The wind energy sector is growing rapidly, as can be concluded from the recent completion of offshore wind fields and the increasing number of prospects in this field. The development of marine renewables (tidal and wave) also follows a trend of growth, although still behind on the wind energy sector.
DMC Infra has performed concept studies, tender designs and detail designs of offshore wind farms. DMC Infra is also working on various concept studies to commercialise tidal and wave energy.

o Tidal Energy

On the predicted moment flood is coming in and later on the tide is going out. A natural phenomenon caused by the gravitational forces of the moon and to a lesser extent the sun. As water flows in and out estuaries, it caries energy.
Electricity can be generated from tidal energy by two main types:
1. Tidal Stream - Kinetic Energy
2. Barrage - Potential Energy

DMC Infra has been involved in projects of the second type of energy conversion. We advised Tidal Electric for the Bay of Fundy project in India.
An artist impression of the proposed solution is shown above. DMC Infra has performed the following:
• Data Collection
• Technical Site Selection Study
• Technical Feasibility Study

o Wave Energy

Wave energy has a strong potential to become an important source of energy in the next decades. The energy available in waves is high and technical challenges lie ahead to convert this energy to electricity at high effiency rates. The available wave energy resources vary around the globe and some locations are not suitable for efficient generation of wave energy.
In recent years DMC Infra has been involved in several wave energy projects (Oscillating Water Column and Overtopping). DMC Infra has developed extensive experience which led to the development of a new type of wave energy convertor, referred to as 'Ocean Falls'.
Unlike many wave energy converters, which do not generate energy at low sea states, the 'Ocean Falls' concept retains its effiency throughout a wide spectrum of sea-states. The structure is robust and can be integrated in breakwaters, but also at exposed locations.

o Wind Energy

Wind energy is by far the largest contributor to the share of renewable energy. The construction in a marine environment is much more complicated than the installation of land based facilities and hence the costs associated with the development of offshore wind energy projects are therefore higher compared to onshore projects. In spite of this costs issue, offshore wind parks projects are developed in increasing numbers, particularly in densely populated areas to minimize the visual impact of the installation of wind turbine towers.
DMC Infra has been involved in numerous projects, ranging from concept design to detail design. Examples of projects are Egmond Offshore Wind farm, onshore wind farm Anna Siddiki. DMC Infra is capable of designing the various foundation types: mono piles, tripods, gravity base structures and floating foundations.
DMC Infra can offer:
• Hydrodynamic studies
• Wind and wave loading
• Structural design (static/dynamic)
• Soil-structure interaction, static and dynamic
• Pile drivability and pile driving analysis
• Dynamic behavior and fatigue of the foundation structure
• Facilities such as platforms, fendering and J-tubes
• Scour protection

DMC Infra can execute design work from feasibility stage up to detailed design.
