Delhi Division Northern Railway

History of Delhi Division is as old as of Indian Railways. Delhi Division is located in National Capital of the country. It connects Southern, Central, Eastern and Western part of the country with Northern Region with a approx track kilometer-age of 2874.939.

This Division serves a number of historical places like Delhi, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Meerut, Palwal, Faridabad and industrial cities like Badli, Narela, Sonepat, Panipat, Karnal, Guldhar, Modi Nagar, Partapur, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Palwal, Delhi Cantt, Gurgaon etc. Meerut cantt & Delhi cantt are important Military bases of Indian Army.

This division runs 582 Mail/Exp. & Passenger trains, which include Rajdhani, Duronto, Shatabdi, Yuva, Jan Shatabdi, Sampark Kranti, Garib Rath which connects all the states of the country with the National Capital.

Most of the passenger traffic is handled by five coaching terminals in Delhi Area viz. Delhi, New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Delhi Sarai Rohillla & Anand Vihar. On an average about 9 Lakh passengers are handled daily at these terminals.

Tuglakabad, Ghaziabad & Shakurbasti are three important freight marshalling yards of the division. On an average 215 goods trains are dealt with daily. Coal, POL, Iron, Steel, Containers, Cement & Fertilizers rakes are received from Eastern and Western Railways for consumption in National Capital region as well as supply to Thermal Power Stations at Ropar, Bathinda, Surat Garh & Lehra Mohabbat. Sponsored and Public food grains, POL rakes, Containers, live stock and sugar rakes are loaded on this division for transportation to Eastern, Central, Western & Southern part of the Country.

For efficient handling of ISO containers, CONCOR has developed handling stations at Tuglakabad & Ballabhgarh. On an average 10 to 12 rakes are loaded for different ports of the country.
