Darkali :- The Mini Switzerland

Darkali is a village in the tehsil/mandal of Rampur in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh. Darkali vilage is the center of the Darkali Panchayat. The name explains itself Dar + Kali (door step of goddess Kali). About 60 families are residing in the village from different castes and creed. The first ever family of village Darkali is Mehta family. After this Badrel comes from Gharwal hills in the 16th century, after that Thakur’s from Arhal(Rohru), and Negi’s(Repalto) came from Sangla(kinnaur) and living here. The Badrels are now the most powerful and reputed family of the village and panchayat. The village has a temple of Lakshmi Narayan, which was built about 400 years ago now gutted in fire incidence in the month of March 2009. It is about 50 km in the north of Rampur Bushahar of Shimla district. The vilage has habitated by about 60 households most of them are agriculturists and horticulturists. Apple is the main cash crop of the village.
