Darasuram

This small town is known for the Airavateswara temple constructed by the Rajaraja Chola IIin the 12th century AD. In 2004, the temple was recognized as an UNESCO World protected monument. This temple is one of the finest examples of the Dravidian Architecture and named after the mythical white elephant, Airavat, who is known for his devotion to Lord Shiva. This town is located onthe way to Thanjavur-Kumabakonam route. Each and every sculpture monitors the real life situations. This town is well known for silk sareeweaving.
