Kerala is famous for modeling positive results in education and health care, through decentralized governing strategies and stemming the flow of the rural poor to urban slums through rural enhancement programs. The State’s long history of enlightened society building is a model for less overdeveloped societies and a signal to over-consumptive societies about what is possible with relatively modest means.
