Corbett National Park is just 60 km away from Nainital situated in Ramnagar in the District of Nainital, Uttarakhand with an area of 521 km2.

The Corbett National Park reserve, located partly along a valley between the Lesser Himalaya in the north and the Siwaliks in the south, has a sub-Himalayan belt structure. The upper tertiary rocks are exposed towards the base of the Siwalik range and hard sandstone units form broad ridges. Characteristic longitudinal valleys, geographically termed Doons, or Duns can be seen formed along the narrow tectonic zones between lineaments.

JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK harbour some of the exotic species of our wildlife. Snow leopards, thars, bharals, brown & himalayan black bears, serows, tigers, leopards, elephants and an immense variety of avaian species inhabit the preservation zones, like the sancturies & national parks, or open forests dotting the countryside. Streams & rivers in stretches, teem with fish like mahaseer, hill trout & conch.

Jim Corbett Park is the oldest park in India, extends along the banks of the Ramganga river, encompassing the dense Sal Forests of the Himalayan foothills & the Savannah vegetation of tall grassy meadows.


This is one of the richest areas for the typical big mammals of northern India, renamed after Jim Corbett the famous hunter, author and pioneer conservationist who helped set up this wildlife sanctuary. With elevations in the Park ranging from 400m to 1210m there is a rich diversity in habitat. Animals of the Himalayas and those of peninsular India can both be seen here and over 50 mammal and 25 reptile species have been recorded at Corbett. Among the predators are the tiger, leopard, diverse species of lesser cats and the dhole - the wild dog.

Climate - Weather OF Corbett National Park

The weather in the Corbett National Park is temperate compared to most other protected areas of India. The temperature may vary from 5 °C (41 °F) to 30 °C (86 °F) during the winter and some mornings are foggy. Summer temperatures normally do not rise above 40 °C (104 °F). Rainfall ranges from light during the dry season to heavy during the monsoons.
