Situated about fifteen km. away from BALGONA, the midpoint on KATWA-BURDWAN bus route and just 1km. from ‘College More’ (turning) on KATWA-MEMARI bus route CHANDRAPUR COLLEGE is well connected and easily communicable by hourly playing buses from different ends. ‘Far from the madding crowd’ and the din and the bustle of city life, the college is secured by compound walls all around. With lush green around, and with a big flower garden before it provides a pleasant and ideal learning atmosphere. Higher Secondary and Primary Schools, Primary Health Center, Telephone Exchange, land Revenue Office, Panchayet Office, shops and market place-all within a stone’s throw of the college have given it a convenient situation.Established in August, 1985 on more than 7 acres of land, the college formally began its humble career in the next year with the introduction of arts General Stream course. Added to the pressing local need, close and amiable teacher-learner relation leading to a favorable teaching-learning atmosphere, prompted the Governing Body to approach the University for affiliation of Commerce Stream Course and it was availed of in two years. Commendable results in the Commerce Stream, later, led to the University affiliation of Honours Courses in the college. By and by, Honours Courses in Accountancy, Bengali, History, English, Geography, Philosophy and Sanskrit were introduced. University affiliation of some professional courses to meet the growing need of
the present day students is being sought for to keep pace with the growth and extension of various faculties, the two storey college building has recently been developed into three storey one and a suitable Administrative Bloc has duly been annexed to the main building. The tow storey Girls’ Hostel within the bounded campus, a step forward to infrastructural support for the girls students aspiring to having a residential college, is just ready for inauguration.
Apart from the full-time teachers and the Principal, the part-time teachers also are energetic to ensure the ideal teaching-learning atmosphere and to contribute to the academic development of the college thereby. The students are given Class Tests and are offered Tutorials regularly. These remain effective in provoking the curiosity in the students and conductive to their success in the Final University Examinations. Consequently, the students of this college have set up a tradition of coming off with flying colors every year. Computer education for every First Year students has been provided for at an affordable cost.
Despite being a rural college, in no way is it deficient of the required basic amenities for all concerned. There are sufficient number of class rooms furnished with sufficient furniture, separate common rooms for boys and girls, seminar hall and the provisions for electricity supply, running water and power generator. With a considerable number of accession of both useful text and reference books and with supply of various academic journals, the college library is a rich one. Students, if they like, can go on with their studies in the quiet of the large reading room annexed to the library.
In the spheres of games and sports, culture and social service, too the college can justly boast of being ahead of some others. There is a bicycle stand in the college premises. The college office is fully computerized.
The intake capacity of the college is limited. Admission to Honours Courses is purely merit based and the process there of is transparent enough. The lists of the eligible candidates for different Honours Course Subjects along with computed merit indices are displayed in public on the notice board and after counseling admission finally takes place.
