BIRTH, a very crispy but appropriate acronym of the institution, offers solutions to the entire spectrum of problems related to both male and female reproduction, so that couples face no problem in bringing off-springs to this world. The institute is the brain-child of Dr Gautam Khastgir who wanted to provide the most advanced treatment for infertility in the heart of Bengal, to save people the trouble of going elsewhere. He had a brilliant academic career with several prizes and medals to his credit, awarded to him at different stages of his training, both in India and abroad. However, Dr Khastgir decided to return to India and has worked very hard for the last decade to improve public awareness on reproductive health issues through his contributions in the form of newspaper articles as well as radio and television programmes. He has also participated in innumerable health camps organized by NGOs and charities. With his endeavour, Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgery has become very popular in Eastern India. This he has done by performing more than 10,000 such surgeries in the last 12 years, at a very reasonable cost. He conducts hands-on training programmes and live-workshops on endoscopic surgeries and assisted conception in this own institution as well as in other states and countries. His institute was selected by Karl Stortz, a renowned German company, as one of the six training centers in India. He has already trained more than 150 doctors, so that these advanced treatments are available to common people everywhere.
The fact that BIRTH has become the busiest infertility center in Eastern India and is one among the first five in the country, says a lot about its credentials. This is largely due to its astonishingly high success rate, available at an affordable cost, along with pleasant and supportive nature of the staff. The use of contemporary and innovative technology has made infertility treatment so effective. There is a saying that nobody leaves the institute empty handed. This word of mouth publicity has drawn patients from all neighbouring states and abroad.
