More about Birders Camp

Birdwatchers Camp at Mastura, Uttarakhand

Mastura is a tiny village on the Okhimath-Chopta road. A retired army officer Shrichand Negi has made a budget guest house in 2001 on his paternal land and named t as Devariya Guest House. Shri Bhagat Singh, passed away in 2015 at a ripe age of 84, the well known birdwatcher, photophotographer and author spent his 25 yrs of retired life at this place. So the entire area is full of birds and they are quite easy to see by photographers.

I have sighted over \100 species of birds during my stay here from 23rd evening to 27th morning May 2016. Will give you a list with as many pix as possible. Hope to update this page with bird pix as I continue taking them. I, Suresh C Sharma, after my retirement on 31 Dec 2015 have found this place as my second home and intend to spend rest of my life here as and when time permits.

This palce is a perfect getaway for your idyllic vacation, full of birds and you will be a lot happier to click pix at this place. Devariya Tal, Chopta, Tungnath, Chandrashila are within 20 kms of easy car drive. Excellent views of Chaukhamba, Kedarnath and Neelkanth peaks.

You may also try to trek at many locations nearby like Deoriya or Deyariya Tal, Rauni, Kilapur, Tungnath, Chandrishila and Chopta. Shiva Temple at Tungnath is located at 12073 feet, the highest Shiva temple on the earth, excellent nature views and birds on way, the trek to Chandrashila peak begins from Tunganath, it is a mesmerizing trek.

Accommodation at the Birders Camp is basic, but decent enough, with single and double beds, attached bathrooms, geysers, power back up too with inverter, homecooked food, organic and mostly grown on the land of Shrichand Negi and his kins. Negiji is an excellent cook by hobby and once you eat his cooked stuff, you will never forget its taste, besides its nutrition values. Accommodation is between 500 to 1000 rupees only. Food charges are also nominal, so birding and bird photography is being brought to those who cannot afford costly stays. Perhaps, you will feel much better here.

One week long birding cum bird-photography camps are being organized from October to March, once a month by Suresh C Sharma, beginning October 2016 this year. More such tours/camps can be organized depending on the response. Cost has been placed from Rs 3500/- per person per day including car drive from Delhi/Haridwar/Rishikesh, three meals, tea, local transport, guiding. No hidden agenda, crystal clear budget. Group will not exceed 10 persons per camp so that fruitful interaction is ensured with each and every participants.
