More about Bhainsrorgarh Fort

Perched dramatically atop a 200 feet slate ridge over the shimmering Chambal River, with views that surpass the imagination - Bhainsrorgarh Fort hides a soft soul in its rugged exterior.

The royal family-in-residence has thrown open the fort’s daunting doors to personally take care of your comforts and spoil you with gourmet meals. Little wonder that it has featured twice - in 2008 and 2009 as the Best Heritage Hotel in India by Tatler Travel Guide, UK.

Located in Rajasthan, 235km north east of Udaipur and 50 kms south of Kota, the fort was built in 1741 by Rawat Lal Singh who was conferred the title of “Rawat” and granted this jagir by Maharana Jagat Singh ll of Mewar. The Chief of Bhainsrorgarh was amongst the 16 first class nobles of Mewar. The jagir of Bhainsrorgarh holds great importance to the Chundawat clan as it was granted to the crown prince Rao Chunda after he renounced the throne of Mewar in favour of his to-be-born stepbrother in the 14th Century A.D. Rawat Shiv Charan Singh who is the present owner of Bhainsrorgarh Fort is the ninth in the line of succession since Rawat Lal Singh.

No two rooms are identical at Bhainsrorgarh. Built over three levels around a courtyard, the fortress has been restored to its original glory with 5 suites and 4 deluxe rooms, each exuding its own charm. Romantic jharokas bring in breathtaking river views into most of the suites. The Mewar Suite is the fort’s largest, welcoming you to unwind after a full day in the cushioned alcoves of its stained glass hued lounge, while the Fateh Vilas Suite which is twin bedded and Bhainsrorgarh Suite host the largest balconies. Game trophies and old photographs of the royal family, reminiscent of their valiant days of hunting adorn the lobby shared by the Fateh Vilas and Chundaji Suites, facing the inner courtyard. Come evening the Fort dazzles with chandeliers and guests often head up to The Terrace – usually everyone’s favourite spot for feasting on both: gourmet cuisine and delicious views.

In & around
There’s a lot to explore both in and around Bhainsrorgarh from a day’s excursion to Bundi Fort to being rowed to a romantic picnic on an island on the Chambal River, unless of course you are equally content lazing under a jharoka to savour the ravishing views...
