Badminton Association of Jorethang

Jorethang, a small town to be found at river bank of river Rangit and protected by hills of Darjeeling and Namchi has a very different flavor and history. In this small town were the maximum population of 5000, BAJ (Badminton Association of Jorethang) was formed in 2003 under the leadership of Mr. Tashi Dadul Bhutia and declared the first president of BAJ at Housing Colony with the handful of members. The most important motive to form the association for badminton at Jorethang was to create awareness to the people of Jorethang and to make an opportunity to explore the hidden talent of the Jorethang. During the formation of the association many hindrances were their but with the strong will of the members and leaders they came across it.
Having the strong will power of Mr. Tashi Dadul Bhutia and the members of BAJ they organized the first open badminton tournament at St. Francis School at Jorethang in an open ground just covered by roof sheet and clothes. Hundreds of participants not only from Sikkim, but from Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Siliguri, Doars, Kolkota and other places were came and participated, it was a unbelievable success for the naïve association. Since, then BAJ never looked back they marched step by step writing with success. BAJ has given numbers of players which are very talented and also grab several trophies in their name. In junior category BAJ is emerging as strong contender not only for the hills but other places as well.

At 2012 BAJ was rewarded with her first Indoor Hall by our Honorable Chief Minister Pawan Kr. Chamling. This was regarded as the finest Indoor Hall with international floor mat at whole region of hills. Now BAJ is totally focused to produce such kind of player who can play for India.
