Azad Jammu Kashmir Medical College

AJK Medical College, is a medical school located in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir. It was established in 2011. Teaching hospitals affiliated with the college are Combined Military Hospital Muzaffarabad, 500 bedded, largest hospital in Azad Kashmir spreading on 70 thousand square meters and Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences, also 500 bedded and one of the oldest hospitals in Azad Kashmir. AJK MC is recognized by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and is listed in FAIMER International Medical Education Directory (IMED) of Medical Schools as well as WHO Directory of Medical Schools.HistoryThe College was inaugurated by Prime Minister of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani on October 8, 2011. The people of Azad Kashmir had a dire need of a Medical College which was highlighted in the earthquake of 2005 which exposed the severe shortage of local medical facilities as well as doctors and trained nurses as patients had to be transported to the long distances which resulted in mortality.Admission ProcedureThe candidates are selected by AJK State Entry Test which is conducted by University of Health Sciences, Lahore every year. The college also offers admissions to students from Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh, KPK, and Gilgit Baltistan.
