More about A.p.hithendran memorial trust.

A.P.HITHEDRAN was an 11th STD student born on June 22nd 1993 to Dr.Ashokan and Dr.Pushpanjali; he had a younger brother A.P.LAKSHMAN. He was a loving, friendly and shy child. He was tall, lean with laughter always on his face. He would have turned in to a very handsome young man but fate had other plans for him. He had passion for motor bikes and begged his parents to give him permission to go for ride in his father’s motor bike. On September 20th 2008 he took his father’s bike and went for a ride without wearing a helmet and met with an accident while returning back home. He was rushed to a multi-specialty Hospital in Chennai; the Doctors who attended on him could not save him as he suffered severe head injury. He was declared brain dead.

.
Hithendran’s Parents being doctors understood their son’s condition that a brain dead person is legally and clinically dead but his vital organs like Heart, lungs, Kidneys, Liver, Eyes etc can be kept alive with the support of a ventilator. They also realized that only possibility to make their son live is to donate his organs to other people who are waiting for a vital organ for a fresh lease of life. So Hithendran’s parents decided to donate all his vital organs to anybody who were in need of them and they were not interested to whom it will be used, but what they wanted was their son to live in others and make their families happy.
.
It was on 23rd of September 2008 A.P.HITHENDRAN’S vital organs Heart, liver, Kidneys, Eyes etc were thankfully retrieved by a team of doctors and it was used for Transplantation to six needy patients. The name HITHENDRAN means ‘WELL WISHER’ and true to his name he has given life to six people. He Dies but He lives like a LEGEND

The Ashokans Selfless Work should not rest; instead it should act as a beacon for all to follow!! Let this magnanimous gesture of Ashokans inspire others to act in the same mode of absolute act of random kindness and selflessness .Die, all of us shall one day! But to enliven others even in death is what the Noblest of Deaths is!! But Death is not the End it is in some way the beginning of something else and for the Ashokans to have figured out this noble way to begin something so extraordinary is commendable!! .
Hithendran shall Live on not only in the Lives of people whom he has given a new lease of Life, but also in the Hearts and memories of millions like us!!!
Hitendran’s story continues to inspire many. A widespread public appreciation of the organ donation of Hitendran in the media led to many coming forward to sign pledges of organ donation. The Council of the Major Panchayat of Thirukalukumdram, his home town in Kancheepuram has named the street in which hithendran lived as Hithendran salai...
Hithendran incident spurred a wave of similar organ donations across Tamilnadu, and even in Sri Lanka. The great sacrifice came to be known as the ‘Hithendran Effect’. A total number of 635 organs were thankfully retrieved from 111 Brain dead Donors since Hithendran’s incident till July 2010; this has made Tamilnadu the number one state in organ donation.
The Chief Minister of Tamilnadu awarded the KALPANA CHAWLA AWARD for bravery to Dr.Pushpanjali for taking the bold decision along with her husband to donate the organs of her son at the time of grief and sorrow loosing their son.
