More about Ameen Peer Dargah

Ameen Peer Dargah is a Sufi shrine in the town of Kadapa. This shrine is frequented by people of all faiths and religions and is a symbol of religious and communal harmony. According to local folklore, whoever comes to the shrine to pray will have his or her wishes fulfilled.

The shrine is home to the mausoleums of two Sufi saints, namely Peerullah Hussaini and Arufulla Hussaini II. The Ameen Peer Dargah is referred to as South Ajmer Dargah and Pedda Dargah of Kadapa. It is believed that the shrine was established in 1683 and the natives claim that is nearly 324 years old.

Even today, the descendants of the two Sufi saints work at the shrine and are easily identifiable by their saffron coloured clothing. Male devotees who come to the shrine wear saffron coloured caps.

It is claimed that Peerullah Hussaini was a descendant of Prophet Mohammed and he used to visit the shrines of all Sufi saints across India. On one such trip, while he was in Ajmer, he was asked to relocate to Kadapa which he did. On the way to the town, he stopped at the banks of Pennar River. During this stoppage, the Nawab of Sidhout Taluk, Nek Naam Khan, came and paid homage to Khwaja Peerullah Hussaini, who requested him to name the town Nek Naam Abaad. It is this ancient town that ended up becoming the present-day town of Kadapa.

The Ameen Peer Dargah is open seven days a week, but most devotees throng to it on Thursdays and Fridays. The shrine is open every day from 5.30 am until 10 am and then again from 5 pm until 10 pm. On Fridays, the Ameen Peer Dargah follows the same timings, but can be accessed also between 12.30 pm to 3 pm.

It is located in Nakkash Colony which is about 2 kilometres from the old bus stop in Kadapa town.
