More about Adventure Zone

Spread across 11 acres of landscaped grounds, Adventure Zone is the country’s only permanent integrated outbound training (OBT) and adventure sports campsite. It is also the first company of its kind to have ISO 9001-2008 certification.

Adventure Zone specializes in all aspects of organizational training such as team-building, crisis management, induction training, communication and leadership skills, and a host of other non-technical soft skills.

At its state-of-the-art campsite near Madurantakam, there are two 50 ft climbing and rappelling walls, an obstacle course, shooting ranges, a 2,400 sq. ft swimming pool, jeeping and off-roading tracks, firing ranges, orienteering courses and activities such as parasailing and various training games.

Participants stay in spacious air-conditioned Swiss Cottage-style tents with bunk beds and luxurious toilet blocks. The catering is in-house and excellent, with both veg and non-veg options. It’s a perfect “rough it out in luxury” set-up.

The campsite is also perfect for recreational outings, with bonfires, Karaoke, party games, volleyball, cricket etc. on offer.

AZ has a *100% safety record*. All equipment is world-class. The crew is rigorously trained in safety and maintenance. The campsite is first-aid ready.
*OBT*
AZ’s OBT camps are the real thing. Not dressed-up party games, or indoor quizzes or fun picnics masquerading as OBT. At Adventure Zone, apt and highly structured outdoor activities are used to bring out the aspects of training required by the client.

*Fun and games*
For those not looking for training, this is a great place for a fun outing for families, clubs or companies. There are games, unusual adventure sports, a pool, and plenty of food. For evening parties, AZ organizes DJ, music, Karaoke, bonfires and more.

*Who runs Adventure Zone?*
Army officer, adventure sports enthusiast, music buff and a fan of the outdoors, that’s Maj Roy, the man behind Adventure Zone. A graduate of the National Defence Academy in Pune, he served as an Infantry officer in the Army for 16 years. In 1998, he took premature retirement to set up his dream project Adventure Zone.

In the Army: It’s a career that prepares you for life like no other. From fighting insurgency movements to protecting the border in Arunachal Pradesh or J&K, from leading thousands of men in war and peace to ensuring they are fed, clothed and roofed, from building trenches and bunkers to being a Commando instructor and teaching young soldiers the art of survival, Roy learnt it all in the Army, and then some. It is this rich experience that he brings to Adventure Zone.

Later: Roy quit the Army and started Chennai’s (and possibly India’s) first parasailing outfit in 1998. Drivers heading out on the ECR would be mesmerized by the sight of a colorful chute high up in the air and come close to find a yellow jeep towing joy-riders along. It became the talk of the town. That was the beginning…

Adventure experience: Roy has done pretty much everything — from parasailing, parachuting, and paragliding to hang gliding, bungee jumping, rock climbing, and rappelling. From obstacles and firing to hiking, trekking and camping. From map reading, compass skills, and orienteering to skiing, white water rafting, unarmed combat, cross-country biking and jeeping, scuba diving and snorkeling.

Training experience: Wanting to explore how adventure sports could be used as a training tool, he became one of the pioneers in India in designing outbound training programs (OBTs). He has today designed and conducted many thousand OBTs and worked with several senior trainers. His client list reads like a Who’s Who of corporate Chennai.
