WELCOME TO BEHALA ADARSHAPALLY

The year 1950 marked the stepping stone of the journey of Adarsha Pally as a cluster of evicted inhabitants from East Bengal settled in the location and built their community. It is only after few years of their settlement it was revealed that their possession was a fraud as they were framed by an imposter landlord. The original landlord was Auddy Estate of Chetla who was about to sue these people and once again get them evicted. With the intense apprehension of becoming homeless, these inhabitants unanimously decided to form Adarsha Pally Samity. The purpose of this organization was to fight against their odds and also to engage themselves instrumentally in some various cultural sessions and activities.

The strong motivation was to enrich the members with various constructive programs and to hold on to the tradition led to the foundation of Purbachal Sangha which staged many reputed plays and set a niche for themselves. Since 1957, this organization started Adarsha Pally Sarbojanin Durgostav, an effort to spread the mantra of unity, love and happiness amidst all odds of life. Much later, the youths of this club started Kalipuja in the name of Youngs' Association which in the gradual time emerged out to be the sole club of the colony.

The club had its official Foundation Day announced on July 1981 when it received acknowledgment and authentication from Registrar of Firm Society. The Registration No. of the club is S/33341 of 1981-1982. Post this incident, the Club found its leader in Late Prasanta Majumdar who became the Secretary to give this small set up a new dimension and a success story. The club organized its greatest event in 1990 where eminent celebrity like Asha Bhosle, Kumar Sanu, Bappi Lahiri, Jaya Prada performed and glorified the show to be the most memorable one for the Behala residents. This event marked the magnanimous success of our club along with the association of other local clubs which evidently led Prasanta Majumdar to take up more relevant projects.

Prasanta Majumdar delved into many relevant projects one after the other and materialized them with the help of his able partners 1. Bijoy Ghosal 2. Dipankar Banik (Debu) 3. Prangour Datta 4. Samir Banik 5. Sumit Basu 6. Bhaskar Banik 7. Chandan Sur Roy 8. Subir Chakraborty 9. Atish Ohdedar and 10. President Tapan Basu. The club founded a Cooperative Bank with an objective to form Adarsha Mutual Fund. The residents of the locality started depositing their money in this fund. In 1993, an effort was taken to form the Adarsha Pally Swimming Pool and under the able leadership of Prasanta Majumdar the club started integrating all its resources to meet the bulk expenses of building this swimming pool. Along with the collection of fund from the local residents, the club received grant from Department of Sports of Youth Service, Government of West Bengal. The relentless efforts of Prasanta Majumdar along with his co-members

Sri Bishnu Jiban Chakrabarty, Sri Pranab Majumdar, Sri Swapan Banik, Sri Samir Banik and Sri Deb Bhattacharya led to the foundation stone of the South Calcutta Swimming Pool on 4th February 1994. The event was inaugurated by the then Minister-in-Charge of Department of Sports, Hon'ble Subhas Chakrabarty. In the later years, the club received the much awaited Grant for the pool accelerating the process for its materialization.

The much eminent Adarsha Pally Durgotsav by Youngs' Association Club is the reflection of the persistent endeavor of Prashanta Majumdar. It has been a matter of great pride and dignity for us that his undaunted and determined enterprise has made Adarsha Pally one of the reckoned and distinguished names in Kolkata's biggest Durgapuja since 1996.

26th January 1999, when the nation was celebrating Republic Day, our club lost its mentor Prasanta Majumdar with his untimely and unfortunate demise at a tender age of 37. With many dreams yet to unfold and many missions incomplete, Youngs' Association was then like a lost ship without its captain.

Sri Goutam Majumdar was selected as the next Secretary with the responsibility to materialize the incomplete project of Swimming Pool for the club. The same year the pool was rechristened as PRASHANTA MEMORIAL SWIMMING TRAINING CENTER in order to commemorate the legacy that Late Prasanta Majumdar had left behind. The unfulfilled dream of Prasanta Majumdar materialized to be true in the year 2001 when our much awaited swimming pool came into existence. It received magnanimous response in the inception as we started our journey with 1700 students. But unfortunately, the mutual fund policy came to an end during this period.
