ZPHS Markook

Zilla Parishad High School, Markook is located in Mulugu Mandal, Medak district, Telangana, 45km from Hyderabad and 7km from Gouraram stop on Hyderabad-Karimnagar highway.

This co-educational institution, offering 6th to 10th classes, started in 1966 as a Primary School and was upgraded to a High School in 1991.

While every one of its 406 students come from socially backward and economically poor sections of the local community, a whopping 32 of them have a single parent or are orphans.

Till 2010, the school did not have sufficient accommodation and facilities, no compound wall, no furniture, no toilets, not even drinking
water. Good days began with new teaching staff arriving in 2009 and making determined efforts to overhaul its functioning. Thanks for their
tireless efforts, Government sanctioned a two storied building under RMSA scheme.

A new era started in 2011 when a friend of mine, great philanthropist, Lion GR Suryaraj, CEO of Dynamic Tools Ltd, Hyderabad adopted the school for all round development. With the avowed objective of developing the school into a state-of-art educational institution, he started contributing equipment and student needs. .He has so far contributed a benevalent donation of Rs18 lacs over the past four years towards school uniforms, 12 long notebooks to every student every year, sports uniforms to every student to wear on Wednesdays and Saturdays, black shoes and socks, compass boxes, identity cards and scholarships to top ten tenth class students.

He realized the dire need for toilets, especially for girl students, and came forward to construct a Toilet Complex with a budget of 16 lacs.
These will become operational by the end of January 2016, coinciding with the Golden Jubilee year of the school.

During the last 4 years, we have been doing extraordinarily well in sports and games at mandal, district, state and national levels. Most
importantly, we have done outstandingly well on the academic front too with stellar performance at SSC public examinations.

Recently, University of Columbia came forward and donated 20 laptops to the school and also appointed an instructor to teach basics in English, Maths and IT.The school still needs some more furniture and four more classrooms, and need to develop Library, Laboratory and digital classrooms. The staff and generous philanthropists, with positive
support from government, are actively engaged in exploring all possibilities to make the school a model to others.
