Y.C.I.S.Satara

Yashawantrao Chavan Institute of Science is located at Satara, a historical city. It was started by Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Asia's largest educational institute, founded by late Dr. Karmveer Bhaurao Patil in June 1958 as a science wing of Chh. Shivaji College , Satara. In 1965 it was renamed as Yashawantrao Chavan Institute of Science, in the honor of Mr. Yashawantrao Balwantrao Chavan, former deputy Prime minister of India and then President of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara. Today it is one of the best science institutes among all the colleges affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

In the last few years, the Institute has made unique strides in the following areas:
Generating financial resources (Rs. 85 lakhs for Ladies hostel, Rs. 13 lakhs for research projects, and Rs. 50 lakh grant under college with potential for excellence).
Infrastructural development and facilitation of academic growth and administrative efficiency.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Bangalore has accredited the Institute with A grade in 2004.
University Grants Commission has included the Institute in the list of College with Potential for Excellence.
