Umeshwar Dham (Shiva's abode)

Umeshwar Dham bears its name from Uma's Ishwar the Supreme Lord Shiva.

Situated in a srene setting on the bank of sacred river Ganges at Sapt Sarovar Marg, Haridwar, it was built in 1970 by Paramhans Swami Uma Bharti Ji Maharaj.

Sri Sri 1008 Maha Mandleshwar Paramhans Swami Uma Bharti Ji Maharaj is a reknowned saint of India.

Shri Maharaj ji’s parents used to live in Lahore (now Pakistan) before 1947 and moved to India just after the partition.Her Father Shri Kesar Mal Sharma was employed with Indian Railways and her mother Param Vandaneey, Prerna Shrot, Brahmlin, DADA GURUDEV Swami Anand Murtiji Maharaj was a great saint as well. She was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu.

Shri Maharaj ji was a special child. She had a deep love for God and at the age of 4 she could recite ancient Sanskrit text Bhagwat Geeta.

Coming from a family who had seen India’s freedom struggle, Mahatma Gandhi’s & Bhagat Singh’s era she had great love and deep sense of responsibility for the country.

She always wanted to propagate spiritual awakening, reincarnation,social welfare, social uplift. Her mother Shri Dada Gurudev Ji realized the gift of her child and encouraged her about Meditation, Sadhna and Tapasaya.

Based on Sri Dada Gurudev Ji’s encouragement and Shri Maharaji’s quench of knowing the unknown & spiritual self – reliazation, she left her home at the age of 10 years.

She spent next few years in mountains of Uttra Kashi where she used to meditate. She entered a deep state of Sadhna and Tapasaya and on the day of a Maha Shivratri after 24 hours of continuous meditation she had her spiritual experience.

After completion of her meditation, she came back to the materialistic world, the nearest human civilization was Haridwar The City of Temples.

At haridwar, she started preaching and promoting the Sanatana Dharma. She would selflessly pass on spiritual awakening and upliftment through a deep understanding of the teaching of the Bhagwat Gita, the Ramayana, the Vedas, the Shruti-Smriti and other sacred vedic texts to her devotees.

It was in the year 1970 by the efforts of Shri Dada Gurudev the sacred temple of vedic knowledge and spirituality called “Umeshwar Dham” was established. Situated in a srene setting on the bank of sacred river Ganges, the “Umeshwar Dham” bears its name from Uma’s Ishwar the Supreme Lord Shiva.

The very name of the place describes Shri Maharji’s devotion towards the “Mahadev” and the place itself becomes the Abode of Shiva. Umeshwar Dham is devoted to cultural, ethical, moral and spiritual awakening and social welfare. Shri Maharaj ji has always worked for prosperity, amity, love, goodwill and fraternity of mankind irrespective of region, religion, faith, caste, creed or sect.


In the year 1975, Shri Maharj ji founded a mission in the name of Paramhans Swami Uma Bharti Mission. The registered head office of the mission is at J-8 Rajouri Garden, New Delhi.
The mission was created with following objectives : -

1. To preach, propagate and promote the ancient Vedic Religion of India called Sanatana Dharma .

2. To propagate spiritual self - reliazation, social welfare, social uplift and Adhyatmavad through a deep understanding of the teaching of the Bhagwat Gita, the Ramayana, the Vedas, the Shruti-Smriti and other sacred vedic texts.

3. To spread the knowledge of Sadhna and Tapasya and their benefits to mankind.

4. To help people in distress on account of natural calamities as floods, droughts, epedemics etc.

5. To give financial or other assistance to the diturbed, helpless and poor persons, orphaned children, widows etc.

With Shri Maharaj ji’s special attention towards educational field a school named “Swami Uma Bharti Public School” was established in Rewari Haryana.

The school is one of the best schools in Rewari Town and over the years has become a Senior Secondary school.

Shri Maharaj Ji has published several brochures on spiritual self-realization, social welfare, social uplift and for the propagation of Adhyatamvad in the form of teachings derived from her studies of Bhagvat Geeta, the Ramayana and the Vedas and thereafter conversant with meditation.

She has been spreading the knowledge of meditation and benefits of Sadhna and Tapasya to mankind.

Shri Maharaj Ji has spread the knowledge of meditation and vedic texts outside India as well. During her visit to United States, she imparted the deep and ancient knowledge of the Vedas and propogated spiritual awakening to people of New Jersey, Illinois and Washington DC.

Shri Maharj ji has shown that anyone and everyone can and must reach spiritual awakening and self-realization and that can help create an honest, stress and violence free society.
