Sudder Street

Sudder Street - One of the most famous streets in Kolkata, India, where global nomads, backpackers, volunteers and tourists passing come for affordable hotels, shopping, great food and to congregate.

Sudder Street can be a wonderful place to stay while in Kolkata, but it is also filled with scamers, drug pushers, beggars who aren't really poor (many of the women/men constantly asking for money actually have homes and real jobs), unhygienic restaurants and unsanitary street food, men of all ages constantly and inappropriately hounding foreign women and high priced souvenirs and clothes, train/airfare tickets and sightseeing tours that can be bought cheaper elsewhere. Please do not contribute to the illegal and unnecessary underground culture of the city by enabling these practices. Take notice, demand fair prices! We want you here but we want you happy and safe :)
