Sriperumbudur Parish

Pondur, Theresapuram was historically a missionary venture of Franciscan brothers from Belgium. A small Chapel was built as an Evangelization centre. Later a school was constructed to render education to the people of the villages. The school which was managed by the Jesuits later was handed over to the Brothers of St. Gabriel. The Montfort brothers under the Province of Kerala worked for the Diocese of Madras-Mylapore and strived to bring up the school and upgraded it as Higher Secondary school. The Priest who was placed as the Parish Priest was a Chaplain to the Institution which had a Diocesan Home for the boys. With the invasion of the Multinational Companies in that locality, the community of Catholics was ever on the increase and hence the residence of the Parish Priest was shifted to Sriperumbudur on the by-pass road in the land already purchased by Rev. Fr. P.C. Thomas. Rev. Fr. P. Charles Constructed the new church and it is dedicated to Our Lady of Velankanni. At present Rev.Dr. Edwin Lawrence has been appointed as a Parish priest.
