Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple,Right in the city of Visakhapatnam is located,, a historical place with strong religious background connected to the city. Kings of Visakhapatnam were great devotees of Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi, who is believed to be the personification of Sri Lakshmi. The divine idol is admired and worshiped by the local people as Ammavari. This temple area is known as Burujupeta, ever since the statue of ammavari was found from a well close to Buruju, which means fort.DescriptionFrom the native legends it’s learnt that Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Ammavaru is that the family spiritual being of the then ‘Rajas of Visakhapatnam’. The section wherever the idol was found is named ‘Burujupeta’ since it had been near ‘Buruju’, the ‘Fort’, an area of residence of the then Vijyanagara Kings. it’s learnt that within the year 1912 the idol of god Sri Kanaka MahaLakshmi Ammavaru was taken out from the well and it had been put in at the middle of the road i.e., amidst the municipal lane. The municipal authorities, for the aim of widening the road, have shifted the Idol from middle of the road to a corner of the road, and through the same amount i.e., within the year 1917 the harmful communicable disease ‘Plague’ touch the city that result in several deaths in Visakhapatnam city.
