More about Shree Dinodhar Manav Kalyan Trust

WHO WE ARE
Shree Dinodhar Manav kalyan trust(DMK Trust), a charitable organization working for the poor, the disabled, the destitute and economically disadvantaged people in the society strictly adheres to the noble ideals of “Service to mankind is service to god” and “ Charity is the supreme dharma”. The charitable activities of the organization are confined not just to human beings as it has been offering protection and relief to the dumb and voiceless animals and birds.
The organization has been tirelessly working to spread hope and cheer among the needy and deprived masses by seeking financial assistance and also aid and support of non financial nature from the prosperous and philanthropic citizens, who are eager to reach out to their less privileged cousins.
The DMK Trust came into existence on Feb. 17, 1974. Today, the organization is registered as a public trust and the registration no. is E-538 (Kutch).
For a period of four years before it got registered, this organization was known as “ Shree Dinodhar Manav Kalyan Fund” which was founded by Shree M.M. Khandol (Jain) back in 1970.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN AND DEVELOPED
Having witnessed the miserable plight of the poor, disabled and the deprived people and the suffering of the dumb animals, the selfless and humane, Shree M.M Khandol, had a strong desire to do something to alleviate their misery and ease their pain. But he was faced with larger question of how to realize his dream of serving mankind as he came from an ordinary middle-class background and had limited resources to take care of his duties and responsibilities towards his family and society. However , he did not let the financial constraint come in the way and went ahead with his mission.
In the beginning, while he was working as a government servant for his livelihood, he would squeeze time for his noble work and go about barefoot from shop to shop carrying a small box to collect charity for his humanitarian work. And help will come in the form of a humble ten paise assistance to a rupee or two. Later, on every Sunday he would go from door to door and appeal to the people to donate their unused medicines, clothes, books or anything that could be given to those who needed them the most.
Thus, he would visit the General Hospital, Mental Hospital, Children's Home, Blind School, TB Sanatorium, Old Age Home and other institutions to distribute whatever he received in charity from the kind and generous citizens of Bhuj. Not only that, he would single-handedly arrange tea and breakfast every morning for the poor and homeless men, women and children at the Meharali Chowk area of Bhuj.
Later, he took a shop on rent in the Bhanji Street area of Bhuj to setup the office for his charitable venture. The same office is operational till today. Impressed by his tireless work and his steadfast commitment, the eminent citizens advise him to apply for registering the organizations as a trust and expressed their willingness to work for him. Accepting their suggestion and acting on their wises, Shree Khandol transformed the Dinodhar Manav Kalyan Fund into a public trust and renamed it as Shree Dinodhar Manav Kalyan Trust.
Keeping in mind the dedication of founder of this organization and commitment of the altruistic people associated with this instituion, bountiful donations were extended by Maharao Mandansinhji from the royal household of Kutch, the Non-resident Indians and the local people in the past and the very same generosity is still continuing. Not only this, many organizations have expressed their willingness to felicitate and honour the excellent work being done by the organization. However, having no interest in limelight and publicity, the organisation has considered those invitations an expression of love of the people who appreciate its work and thus not accepted any public honour and felicitation. Despite this, on a few occasions, the organization had to bow the wishes of some sections of society to accept the offer of the felicitation in acknowledgment of the work being done by it. The organization has so far decided to accept these awards:
1. The organization was felicitated for welfare work done during the time of drought.
2. Kutchi Samaj Ratna award presented to the founder by the Pakhadi Community of Mumbai.
3. Award presented by Rotary Club in recognization of the work done by the organization.
A long time of forty years has passed since its inception. During these forty years many members who worked with a rare commitment, past with away and many retired because of old age. As if these losses were not enough, the founder M.M. Khandol and the bright light of the organization, died on January 18, 2015 following a cardiac arrest and thus a steadily burning flame of long service and dedication was extinguished. Today, the founder's family members, the trustees who were nominated by the founder in his lifetime, are putting their best of efforts to keep the flame of selfless service alive.

On February 28, 2015 Honorable Cheif Minister of Gujarat State Shree Anandiben Patel also felicitated the excellent work being done by Late Shree M.M. Khandol by honouring an lateshree award.
