This institution was established in 1883 as Madarsa (Primary School) not only for educational advancement, socio-cultural uplift and mitigation of backwardness of Muslims of U.P. but as a part of long term strategy to awaken the youth against the British rule, to infuse nationalism, patriotism and unity among the people. Allama Shibli Nomani wished to synthesise oriental and occidental learning and therefore he planned to establish an academy where qualified persons from both streams may have an environment conducive to scholarly pursuits. He could establish an academy later known as Darulmusannefin (Shibli Manzil) prior to his death in 1914.
