Seth MotilalJi Jhunjhunwala, A renowned businessman of India, known as 'Silver King’, laid the first foundation of an educational institution at Jhunjhunu district headquarter in 1937.

Reflecting his concern towards social transformation through knowledgeable society, in 1937 he laid the foundation of 'Sanatan Dharam Pathshala’ in the era when feudual system was prevailing in the shekhwati region and the common mass was at - large depried of formal education. The monogram of the institution depicted the perspective of 'Education leads to humbleness', having & A lamp, a lotus and a book that means Development of Education, Honesty and Patriotism. serenity of the hill locks all around endowed the campus with an ideal environment for education and research.

The school was later converted into ‘Seth Motilal Middle School’ in the year1948 and again transformed into 'Seth Motilal Intermediate College' in 1952. Later on, the intermediate college was elevated as a Degree College in the year of 1958 & and the transmittance of the basic idea of 'Providing education to All' was also amended with 'Providing Higher Education to All'.

The college was upgraded to P.G. level in 1981 with the commencement of P.G. College classes in Arts and Commerce faculty at the initial and P.G. in Science in the subsequent years.

Seth Motilal college has its importance not only in Jhunjhunu district but in the whole of Shekhawati region . The college was recognized by U.G.C. for 12B and 2F on 21/11/1960 and 02/07/1982 respectively. The Golden jubilee of the institution was celebrated by the Management in 1989.
