Mandleshwar is located at 22.18' N 75.67'E it has an average elevation of 153 meters (501 feet). Mandleshwar in central India is on the bank of the Narmada River at a narrow point where in the monsoon the stream after rises 60 feet above its normal level becoming a roaring torrent.
The Narmada is one of the most important river of India and at Mandleshwar there are many beautiful tanks temples and ghats.
Mandleshwar has a great history. The great scholar and vidvana Mandan Mishra lived here and had a debat with Adi Shankaracharya, and one can still see the Gupteshwar Mahadev Temple where this debate took place. It was also the headquarters of the Nimar Agency and eantonment under the British from 1819 to 1864. The town is an important retail marketing and trade center. Mandleshwar is just 8 k.m. from Maheshwar, which was the capital of Holkars states.
The town is becoming an educational hub has now it has degree colleges , quality schools and pharmacy colleges. Place has a great in the infrastructure projects in khargone dist. There is also a dam (Maheshwar Hydel power corporation which is under PHED Deparment where water supply to Indore.)
