Rongpoor

Rongpur was the name of the Capital City of Ahom Kingdom(1228-1826) now Called as Shivasagar/ShivSagar which means, the Ocean of Lord Shiva. The Founder/Leader of Ahom Administration, Emperor, ChiyuKaPha and his Followers Have migrated from Mounmao Province near Yunan of China to the Brahmaputra Valley via Patkai Pass and continuously rulled from Sadiya of present Arunachal Pradesh to Dhubree of present Bangladesh for Six Long Centuries(1228-1826=598years) Until the British-India took it over after the Treaty of Yandabo. A Doul(Memorial Temple) for one of the 42 Ahom Kings, Who had accepted Hinduism and kept his name as Shiv Simha was built which is 37meters up to the Apex made of pure Gold and turned out to be the Highest Shiv Temple in Asia along the Sea like Manmade Tank on It's side. The Clerical Staffs of British-Indian Administrators who had accompanied from West Bengal Called it ShivSagar. Since then it has got the name of Shivsagar/Sivsagar or Sibsagar.Despite of situating the Tnk at the Highest Altitude of Present Sibsagar City and The Whole water Supply being supplied from it to the City, the water level remains All the same through out the Year!
