Raibag is a town in the southern state of Karnataka, India. It is located at the Raybag taluka of Belagavi district in Karnataka.DemographicsIndia census, Raybag (Rural) had a population of 9911 with 5123 males and 4788 females. It is one of the smallest taluq in Belagavi district. Besides being an underdeveloped place, its geographical situation is very good as it is just 591 from Bangaluru,90 km from Belgaum,65 km from Kolhapur,and 50 km to Sangali-Miraj. The market here is so unplanned that, there is always a jam or congestion. The town also is home to two sugar factories providing a large source of employment. A fertilizer factory on outskirts adds another feather to the cap. The villages nearby are famous for their vibrant cultures and arts. A village named Chinchali, 8 km from the town is famous for its female goddess Mayakka, an annual fair which happens here is considered to be the Karnataka's second largest fair after Saundatti Yellamma.The town also celebrates a grand fair of Goddess Laxmi once in five years.The climate here in and around is moderate and makes it best for living.The major clans here are Kurubas, Jains and Lingayat. In yesteryears the place was under the rulership of Shahu Maharaj; the place derives its name with the meaning King and Tiger, for Rai and bagh respectively where latter means tiger in Hindi.The town has a beautiful newly built Mini Vidhan Soudha hosting several public offices such as Tahasildar, revenue, etc., and official RTO registration bearing KA 23. A major source of transport is Railway, which passes here to major cities of the state and counterparts. The major source of income is agriculture, the rural people growing rich crops like sugarcane, turmeric, grapes, etc.HistoryIn ancient days Raybag was called as Poobaagi means ''hoovina baagi' . The Ratta empire ruled Poobaagi for several centuries. Somanath temple, Narasimha temple and Jain basadi are historical places. Rajaditya was famous a mathematician of Poobaagi.
