It was founded in 1947 by the managing trustee Sri G.R.
Govindarajulu and the founder principal Dr. G.R. Damodaran.

#HISTORY#

PSG College of Arts and Science was started in 1947 by the PSG and Sons Charities Trust which was founded in 1926 by the four sons of P.S. Govindasamy Naidu, the four brothers of the PSG family, Thiru PSG Venkataswamy Naidu, Thiru PSG Rangaswamy Naidu, Thiru PSG Ganga Naidu and Thiru PSG Narayanaswamy Naidu.

Until 1978, the college was affiliated to Madras University; now the college is affiliated to Bharathiar University.

Timeline
1947: College established.
1978: Autonomous status confirmed.
2003: Became an ISO 9001: 2000 certified institution.
2004: Identified as a College with Potential for Excellence by University Grants Commission (India)
2007: Re-Accredited by NAAC with A+ grade in February.

#COURSES#

* Thirty Eight UnderGraduate (UG) courses including arts and science courses like B.Sc, BA, BCom, BBM, Diplomo
* BSc courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Literature, Accounting Fields
* Twenty Seven PostGraduate (PG) programmes like MA, MSC, MBA, MCA, MSW, MIB
* M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in seventeen faculties.

#CAMPUS LIFE#

Wizards and Heartbeat are the annual inter departmental cultural competitions and Cascall and Euphoria are the annual college cultural competitions. Students from all over Tamil Nadu participate in them as they have high prizes.

Associations like the Mathematics Association, Physics Association and Chemistry Association organise subject-related functions.

Other Associations like Eco Club,Face Club, Citizen Consumer Club and Nilamutram give extra-curricular activities.

The Department of Computer Science organises a state-level inter-collegiate technical festival, "Gateway," which takes place during February and March. The events are primarily tests of computer technologies and have design-oriented events such as web design.

PLACEMENT CELL:
The Placement Cell caters to the employment needs of the students and to the well-being of the society through proper guidance, counselling and periodic campus interviews. Total placements made during 2000-2003 by the Placement Cell are 828 with an approximate salary of RS.1 Lakh to RS.2.4Lakhs. Visiting companies include Global organisations like Ford, Wipro, Elly Lily Ranbaxy Infosys, CTS and the like.89 companies visited the college for campus interview purposes.

ON CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION :
* A comfortable Guest House and three guest rooms with all facilities.
* The college provides separate hostel accommodation to boys and girls, with a built up area of 7,200sq. mts.
a. Boys hostel - capacity of 450.
b. Girls hostel - capacity 720. The New Hi-tech Hostel can accommodate 320 lady students.
c. An exclusive hostel is available for International Students with a capacity of 100.
d. Internet facility is available in the Hostels.
e. The hostel has an exclusive library for inmates.
