Patan Patolas

Patola's, A hand made Silken Saree's manufactured at Patan in Northern Gujarat, is an Art Historically at least several centuries old. As per legend from 4th A.D. It is recorded in religious books like Ramayan & Narshiha Puran that Patola's were used in big religious ceremonies.
It is believed that this traditional art received great patronage during chalukya period by the great "King Kumarpal Maharaja" as King used to wear a new Patola's every day during his worship to the god.

Patola's are produced from 1000 years by same process as it was before till today not a single such modification in technique is done as it is a special hand weaving technique. There are mainly seven process of preparing Patan Patola.

While in Preparing Patola's coloring and design pattern are evolved on each thread before actual starting of weaving process. Different colors and pattern are matched exactly on horizontal and vertical threads in weaving. This is the secret of Patola's, A set of designs evolved through coloring which crosses the threads is known as "Double Ikat Patola's".
