The history of Mehta Family begins in Rajasthan when the ancestors of Mehta Family were serving high position in the court of his highness Maharaja Shri Mahesh Dasji Sahib of the suryavanshi Rathore clan in Jhalore. In the year 1658 during the reign of His highness eldest son, Maharaja Shri Ratan Singhji Sahib Bahadur shifted his capital to Ratlam (also known as Ratnapuri) and Shri Kishandasji Mehta (then the eldest of Mehta clan) was appointed as Maharaja’s most important political aide. Impressed by his valor, courage and as an appreciation for his Families dedication and loyalty his highness gifted 32 paraganas of Malwa province (current Madhya Pradesh) to Sri. Kishandasji Mehta.
Touring the 90 odd towns and villages in and around Chettiand, using just a bicycle as his mode of conveyance, MAGANLAL MEHTA soon started a trading business in diamonds, rubies and other precious stones. His Bold, honest and straight forward nature coupled with his hard work gained him not only a good reputation but the valued trust of the Chettiar community.
Mr. Maganlal Mehta is a hard core patriot, a brilliant artist and shrewd business man, who has designed many a piece of jewelry, immortalizing a few designs which are to date, the most sought after in Chettinad !!
Over the years the lives of Maganlal Clan, steeped in land’s rich familial traditions, the third generation – Shri. Maganlal’s sons, joined the family business. Though they were graduates in commerce, skills of the artist and assorter like their father, were strongly inherent.
Shri. Ranjan Mehta entered the realms of his father’s business and inheriting his father’s simplicity and honesty, while adding his own trait of extraordinary patience when dealing with clients, a virtue which has served to gain him a clientele more like friends of the family.
In tune with time the fourth generation, Shri Ranjan Mehta’s son and daughters, Nitul, Kruti, Vancha joined the business. With graduation in computers, Mr. Nitul has been redefining the entire IT part of the company. Kruti and Vancha are now actively enhancing the PR and Promotional part of the company. With plans to open an exclusively fine diamond jewelry boutique in Chennai and further cater and increase the customer base in the southern capital of India.
