Kuyilappalayam Higher Secondary School

Auroville is located in the Villapuram district, which has the second lowest level of literacy in the state of Tamil Nadu. In 1993 Kuyilappalayam School
Trust (KST) was started as a private school, to improve the level of education in the villages surrounding Auroville.
In 2004 the school has 820 students in the ages 3 to 18 years, Kindergarten up to 12 th standard. For 7 years in a row, the 10th standard class passed 100%, with good marks as well.
The school, located 200 meter away from the tar road, opposite New Creation Corner, can be recognized by the students light and dark blue plus grey school uniforms. It is officially recognized by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The monthly expenses are covered for about 1/3 by school fees paid by the parents, and the balance by the Palmyra organization. New classrooms etc. were constructed from donations from Germany, Switzerland and Holland and a few individuals in Auroville. There was never any financial contribution from the Government or SAIIER.
KST is managed by three Aurovilians, namely Guna, Jurgen Putz and Anton.
