Kunzangling Central School, Trashi Yangtse

Kunzangling Central School, established 2016, located in the lower part of Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag under Tongmijangsa Gewog, is envisioned to be an oasis of knowledge fulfilling the hope and aspiration of the people in the region. It is perched on the gentle slope of Kunzangling facing Ramjar Geowg. Majestically taking repose at an elevation of 1500 m above sea level, our school is located about 12.5 kilometres away from the highly revered and historically important place called Gomphu Kora. It extends over an area of 21 acres.
Official signing on documents and subsequent handing-taking over of our school took place between our Ministry and M/s Singye Construction Private Limited on 28th December, 2015. Kunzangling Central School is an offshoot of the erstwhile Tongmijangsa Lower Secondary School. The school, as our previous sentence would suggest, has two campuses: the junior campus in the same old site catering to students ranging from Pre-Primary to VI; and the senior campus in the newly constructed site at Kunzangling catering to students from VII to IX.
The construction of the new site has begun from 17th January, 2011 with the budget assistance of Nu. 145,792,480/- from Government of India (GoI). The completion of work did not come handy. It took almost five long years to complete it. The school has 12 unit classrooms, 1 integrated administration block inclusive of office, library, staffroom, conference hall and toilets. The school also has two 120 bedded hostels, one each for boys and girls, full size multipurpose hall, dining hall and kitchen for school mess, four-unit staff quarters and a quarter for principal. Reliable water supply and latest designed washrooms are available. Matron and warden’s quarters are attached to girls’ and boys’ hostel respectively. The school will soon have an additional infrastructure of 180 bedded hostel and six-unit classrooms funded by GOI.
The junior campus is the erstwhile Tongmijangsa Lower Secondary School which was established as primary school in 1974 and later upgraded it to lower Secondary School in 2007. The campus is equipped with adequate infrastructure and educational tools for learning. It has 8 unit classrooms, 2 unit blocks for the laboratory and the library, 1 kitchen, 1 dining hall, 4 unit administrative blocks, 4 unit girls’ hostels, 2 numbers of 2 unit boys’ hostels, separate toilets for boys and girls , 1 small playground, and 1 Vice-principal’s quarter. The warden and matron’s quarters are attached to the hostels. The junior campus is currently under major renovation with the construction of additional toilets, kitchen cum store, chain-link fence for playground, and development of the assembly ground. The renovation work is carried out under the School Rationalization Project (SRP) funded by the UNICEF.
