Physiotherapy is a science which aims to accelerate a patient's recovery after illness or injury and seeks to restore and maintain physical function. It has a role to play in all age groups and in all branches of medicine. During the 4 years course students undergo instruction in basic body structures & organs, their function, disease, recovery and rehabilitation encompassing the subjects of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, medicine, surgery, orthopedics, gynaecology, and sports medicine.
They are introduced to various methods of testing, mobilization techniques, electromyography and neuromuscular facilitation. The students also learn about various treatment methods of hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, stimulators, UV radiation, short wave diathermy, laser therapy, wax bath etc, and different technics like bobath, mcKenzie and Mulligan.
Physiotherapists are highly skilled professionals and can practice independently without referral from medical practitioners.
