India is known for its arts and crafts. It’s always been a choice of emperors right from the reign of Mughal dynasty and for centuries palaces have been decorated with the crafts the hard working artisans have been producing. Whether it’s Handmade, Machine processed, Ethnic or Vintage this country has always had a diverse collection which can mesmerize anybody on the planet. Organizing this diverse craft market and bringing it under one roof is always a challenge.

The journey of KraftsCafe started when two craft enthusiast accidently visited a craft exhibition at a ground near their college. Just as they went stall to stall, they were intrigued to see the creativity and the amount of hard work the artisans had put in behind each one of it. They had crafts right from a candle stand which can, on any given day, easily beat candle stands in a five star restaurant to carpets which can add stars to any home. But inspite of such jaw dropping products much to their surprise the students found out that the turn up in the exhibition was very meager. The reason they found out was that a craftsman in India usually travels across the country to participate in exhibitions across the country to trade. Since all these exhibitions are undertakings of the government they bother little to advertise for it efficiently and generate awareness amongst masses. Also while they travel they have to stick to a limited stock of products which they can carry with them. Travelling, lodging and the strict pricing policy of the government curtails their profit margin which leaves them with little inspiration to work harder and they feel exploited. We at KraftsCafe allow them to sell their creations directly to customers so that they can work more towards their passion without worrying about their sales.

KraftsCafe was started in the cold stingy hostel room of NIT Durgapur. Thus, one small step taken was one giant leap in the making.
