More about Khairabad, Sitapur

Khairabad is a famous town in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. It is 8 Kms away from Sitapur City on National Highway 24, about 80 Kms away from the State Capital Lucknow, in Central. The Municipal Board conducts the affairs of the town.HistoryThe town is said to have been founded by Khaira Pasi, in the early 11th century. It was subsequently taken in possession by a Kayasth family. In later years, many rent-free grants of land were made to Muslims who came in large numbers during the reigns of Babar and Akbar, but these grants were all resumed by the Nawab of Oudh in early 1800s. Before the above mentioned Khaira Pasi's time the place was known as Masichait (Masi chitra), and was a place of pilgrimage as far back as the reign of the Great Bikramajit. The name is still extant in the appellation of a tank, the waters of which are said to possess healing properties, and which is called "Maswasi Talao". As far as the Islamic Era is concerned Hazrat Yousuf Khan Ghazi Rah. Was the first person to come here. He came here with his colleagues & family and lived here till his death. His Mazar Sharif (Holy grave) is called Rauza Derwaza The History of his period is not very clear, but Mulla Abdul Qadir Badauni has written in his book Multakhab-Al-Tawarikh that Khairabad was developed by Sultan Ibrahim bin Masood bin Mahmood. It is assumed that this town got its name of Khairabad then. Many Muslim Auliya Allah came and settled down in the town and by their presence this place became holy. It was the Commissionary of Awadh State at the time of Akbar and Lucknow was under the Khairabad. Imam bara and few other buildings exist here. Dargah of Hazrat Makhdoom Shaikh Saaduddin urf Bade Makhdoom Sahab is popular among devotees.
