Jeevika Vaishali

The Government of Bihar is implementing “Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project”, more commonly known as “Jeevika” through the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (BRLPS), with financial support from the World Bank, Govt. of Bihar and through Community Contribution. The project ‘Jeevika’ was started on 2nd October, 2007.
In context of Vaishali, Jeevika started in December, 2013 under the National Rural Livelihood Mission. Initially, the work started in 3 Block Vaishali. Currently, Jeevika project is working in the 16 Blocks of the Vaishali District namely:- GORAUL,HAJIPUR,VAISHALI,LALGANJ,RAJAPAKAR,SAHDEI,CHERAKALA,BIDUPUR,MAHUA,RAGHOPUR,JANDAHA,MAHNAR,BHAWANPUR,
PETEDHI BELSAR,PATEPUR,DESRI.
Hajipur,Vaishali,Rajapakar,Sahdei,Cherakala
Bidupur,Raghopur,Mahnar,Bhawanpur,
Petedhi Belsar, Patepur, Desri.



1.1 Capacity Building of Project Staff:- More than 90% of Project Staff received the training on SHG Concept and Management, VO Concept and Management & Proper way of maintaining Books of Record.
1.2 Capacity Building of Institutions: - More than 75% of SHGs has been trained on SHG concept and Management, 75 % of VOs have got trained on VO concept and Management.
1.3 Community Professional:- The Community Mobilizers is in the process of Indentifying and training plan is going on and is in the process.
2. Micro Finance and Micro Insurance
The Purpose of this theme is to enable SHGs of poor households develop and manage microfinance portfolio. The broader goal of Micro-Finance intervention through the project is to create an ambience of faith as regards approach of banking with the poor. The vaishali is the new district so planning and scheduling process is going on.

3. Livelihoods
3.1 Farm:-
The Major aspects of the entire project is to provide livelihoods opportunities to each household and keeping the agrarian background of the district in our mind, farm based livelihoods approach would be very effective. Under that approach, different new agriculture production techniques are initiated to increase the productivity.
3.2 Non Farm:-
Besides the farm based livelihood, Jeevika, Vaishali is also supporting SHGs in Vaishali through producers groups where the SHG members themselves manage, run and market their products various initiatives are taken in to the account and will take place by the professional.
4. Jobs :-
Looking towards the migration aspect of the district, full-fledged employment programmes have been initiated and support the unemployed youth of the Self Help Group. The Planning and lisioning with the various groups are in the process.

5. Social Development
Various studies on poverty, social status and migration in Bihar, and the project's own learning’s from the operation of the pilot and other field observation, all point out that the poor’s suffer from an acute shortage of access to basic public health, education services and other public schemes. As a result, they incur high cost debt to smoothen consumption needs, especially with regard to health.
The objective of the Jeevika is to:
• Improve access to preventive and reproductive health care.
• Provide opportunities for primary and secondary education.
• Provide for social risk funds at the Village Organization (VO) for use by members to overcome debilitating risks and
• Finance for health, nutrition and gender activists appointed by the VO.
