About us:

Gene D’Silva founder of Jeevan Dhara started his outreach work in 1998 in Asia’s second largest slum community namely Cheeta Camp, Trombay, Mumbai. The camp has a population of 3,00,000 men, women and children. Poverty, unemployment, malnutrition, disease, illiteracy, crime addiction, exploitation etc. are rampant here. For the first two years he provided food ration to 350 widows, school fees for children between the ages of 3 to 6 years of HIV +ve widows. Simultaneously from the 3rd year Balwadis and Study classes were started.

In May of 2005 the operation was registered as a Society and Public Charitable Trust. With its small band of volunteers the organization was able to conduct study classes for school going children, adult literacy classes, vocational training classes. Also we rehabilitate individuals affected by HIV/AID’s and Drugs/Alcohol abusers in Chita camp, Titwala and Lonavla.

Jeevan Dhara also works with street based drug addicts all over Mumbai. The strength of the men are 1,20,000 spread over the streets of Mumbai. The CSW (commercial sex workers) women in Kamathipura number 3,000 and 20-25000 men are alcoholics living in Cheeta camp. Amongst the street children of Mumbai numbering 35000 we work with children influenced by drugs between the ages 19-25 years.

In Cheeta camp every year we reach out to 120 Balwadi children, 800 Study class children, 200-300 women through vocational training and 200-300 dropout children through vocational training.

In Titwala we rehabilitate 150-200 street based adult drug addicts (hardcore).

In Lonavla we rehabilitate 100-150 street based drug addicts aged 19-25 years (solution, cough syrup).

Jeevan Dhara is registered u/s 12AA (1)(b)(i) of the Income Tax Act 1961 and has been given a Registration No. 39917 and P.A.. No. is AAATJ 7363 B.

Registered under Public Trust Act 1950 u/s 29. Registration No. allotted is F- 28611 (Mumbai) dated 2/12/2005.

Registered as a Society u/s 21 of 1860 and has been allotted Registration No. B.B.B.S.CO 1753 dated 29/8/2005.

Tax exemption u/s 80G 1542.
